A Sherlock Movie Could Happen, says Mark Gatiss

After the huge success of ‘The Abominable Bride’, Sherlock’s Christmas special, co-creator Mark Gatiss has revealed they would consider producing a Sherlock movie.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are already well-known movie stars, and Sherlock episodes are already feature length at 90 minutes per episode, so a Sherlock movie would need the best storyline there is.

“Of course we could do a movie, but it would have to be a story of sufficient scale to make that move because they’re already very big, expensive and movie-like.” Gatiss told The Daily Mirror.

Following the worldwide cinema release of ‘The Abominable Bride’, it’s overthrown Star Wars in Korea, raising $5.4 million (£3.7m) in its first day of release.

But whether a movie happens or not, Gatiss was quick to assure fans that new television episodes are in the mix, despite busy schedules.

“We’re doing three more episodes of Sherlock next spring, then we’ll see.”

And it appears Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are very keen to do more film roles.

Season four is scheduled to be aired on the BBC in January 2017, being very different from the first three. Steven Moffat, co-creator, revealed that they will be darker, more exhilarating and deal with a lot of consequences “which will make fans desperate for season five”.
